Tendai Machaya is the founder of GreenPack, leading the mission to eliminate single-use plastics in Zimbabwe through affordable, biodegradable food packaging. A technology innovator with First Class Honours in Computer Science from Ashesi University, he bridges science and sustainable business to solve environmental challenges across Southern Africa.
At GreenPack, Tendai pioneered Harare’s plantable 1 Cup – 10 Seeds initiative to combine waste reduction with urban greening. His work has earned him the Youngest Environmentalist of the Year Award and the Excellence in Community Empowerment & Social Impact Award.
Previously, Tendai co-developed an AI-powered breath analyzer for early COPD detection (published in Digital Health, 2026) and competed on Ashesi’s global iGEM team, winning a gold medal and ranking in the top 10 worldwide in Entrepreneurship and Biomanufacturing.
